ACSA completes R18m cargo division upgrade at Cape Town airport
Airports Company South Africa- (ACSA-) operated Cape Town International Airport (CTIA) has completed an R18-million upgrade of its cargo division.
The upgrade, which was initiated to improve the collection and delivery of cargo at the airport, included the widening of access roads to allow for easier entry of heavy-duty vehicles to the cargo area, as well as the separation of visitor and staff parking entrances.
The airport had converted to a security-aware, access-controlled facility, with two turnstyle gates at the staff parking and one gate for the visitor entrance, and an increase in the number of closed circuit television systems to monitor movement within the cargo area.
ACSA had also upgraded the airport’s perimeter with National Key Point-type fencing, said CTIA acting communications manager Deborah Francis.
Further, four wheelchair-friendly delivery ramps were built and each cargo handling company would now have its own cargo distribution area, with universal loading devices placed per company.
